Farke already has problems in midfield as Manu Kouadio Koné must sit out on an accumulated yellow suspension. Julian Weigl has been back in training since Thursday, but “isn’t a topic for 90 minutes” Farke revealed.
Farke revealed that Hofmann had been absent from training for personal reasons. The versatile German national team attacker is, per Farke, “highly questionable” for Sunday’s encounter. Gladbach will already be without of their their other more consistent players, midfielder Manu Kouadio Koné. The French youth international is unavailable due to accumulated yellow cards.
Florian Neuhaus could conceivably move back to the six position to pair with Christoph Kramer. Farke nevertheless didn’t wish to rule out a change in system, saying that “we’re not wedded to a particular system.” Gladbach did switch to a back-three in a recent match against Bremen. Farke left open the possibility as to whether he’d roll with a solo-six or switch to a back-three.
There was some good news to report in the form of a return to training for German international Julian Weigl, injured since late February. After two successful training sessions, Farke noted that the 27-year-old might very well make the matchday squad. A start for Weigl seems highly unlikely. Given that Weigl is a natural six, however, he could make an appearance off the bench.
