Cleveland Browns fans have voiced their collective anger about the roughness and foul play by a New York Jets player towards one of their team’s young stars in the Week 5 meeting between the two teams.
The Browns fell to 3-2 for the season and had their three-match winning streak halted on Sunday as the Jets defeated them 17-12 at MetLife Stadium.
One of the encouraging performers for Cleveland so far this campaign has been rookie wide receiver, KC Concepcion. The 22-year-old out of Texas A&M was selected with the 24th overall pick in the opening round of the 2026 NFL draft and has made a good start to his professional career, having recorded 144 yards on 17 receptions.
However, Concepcion’s outing against the Jets came to an unfortunate and early end as he was ruled out of the game due to suffering a concussion.
Brutal Hit During NFL Game Causes A Stir
The prospect was on the receiving end of an aggressive hit by Jets safety Minkah Fitzpatrick in the opening quarter after he caught a pass from Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Fitzpatrick was immediately flagged for unnecessary roughness as Concepcion was initially knocked out cold and laid flat out on the turf for a short moment.
The rookie was eventually able to get to his feet and head for the locker room, but the severity of the hit on him meant he was officially diagnosed with a concussion injury and could not return for the remaining three quarters.
The game-ending blow from Fitzpatrick came just a few plays after he was flagged for a facemask on Concepcion, that caused the rookie receiver’s helmet to be ripped off entirely.
Browns fans are no stranger to seeing Fitzpatrick land strong blows on their team’s players as the safety previously played for the team’s AFC North rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, from 2019-2024.
During this period, Fitzpatrick went in for a low tackle on former Browns running back, Nick Chubb, causing him to suffer a serious left knee injury. This pretty much ended Chubb’s NFL career, as he was never the same explosive player afterward and soon retired at the age of 30.
Fans React to Brutal Hit on Defenseless Player
It turns out Cleveland fans are fed up with Fitzpatrick’s aggressive playing style at this point and no longer want to see him on an NFL field.
“The only thing Minkah Fitzpatrick knows how to do is put dirty hits on Browns players and knock them out of the game. He’s a piece of filth and needs (to be) removed from the league,” one fan wrote on X.
Another fan stated: “I want Minkah Fitzpatrick out of the NFL. What a cheap piece of trash,” while one said: “Minkah Fitzpatrick IS DIRTY AND SHOULD BE EJECTED AND REMOVED FROM THE LEAGUE! He shows no remorse…second foul on a single drive is wild!”
One member of the Browns fandom noted that Fitzpatrick has “been a dirty player his whole career and showed it again,” with another fan simply writing: “Different jersey, same Minkah Fitzpatrick.”
Browns head coach Todd Monken will be hoping his rookie star is able to recover swiftly from the big hit he suffered against the Jets and does not suffer any symptoms that could rule him out of the Browns’ game against divisional rivals, the Baltimore Ravens, in Week 6.
