Edu now ‘ready to negotiate deal’ for £113m star at the Emirates

Arsenal are now looking to negotiate a loan fee for Atlético Madrid and Portugal forward João Félix to join Mikel Arteta’s side at the Emirates Stadium for the remainder of the season, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The Gunners are looking to bolster their attacking options this month following Gabriel Jesus’ knee injury suffered at the World Cup.

Arsenal transfer news – João Félix

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal have stepped up their interest in Félix as well as discussing a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk over the potential signing of Ukraine international Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The same publication state that it is not thought that it is a one or the other situation, with both players ideally arriving at the Emirates this month.

Meanwhile, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has told NBC Sports that the Gunners are now chasing the Portugal international’s signature and has suggested that his arrival would take pressure off the club in their pursuit of Mudryk.

Jones has recently told GiveMeSport that Manchester United cannot be ruled out in the race for the £113m star’s signature, with themselves needing to replace a forward in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo.

And now the journalist has been told that Arsenal are preparing to make the first steps to bring Félix to the Emirates Stadium this month.

What has Jones said about Arsenal and Félix?

Jones told GiveMeSport: “I’m hearing that Arsenal are going to try to negotiate with Atlético over João Félix.

“They will try to find some common ground over the loan fee and accept that they might have to overpay compared to a typical loan fee.

“It might be worth it because this is a fantastic chance to win the league and they can’t watch it pass by without exploring everything.”

Would Félix be a good signing for Arsenal?

Having seemingly lost the services of Jesus for a good portion of the remainder of the season, it’s imperative that Arsenal replace what he brings to the side if they are to sustain their title challenge heading into the second half of the campaign.

Despite having only played in 43% of minutes across 13 appearances in La Liga this season, Félix has still been able to hit the back of the net four times and provide three assists, according to Transfermarkt.

The 57 senior goal star, who has been described as a “pure talent” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, also shone at the World Cup with Portugal in the recent tournament in Qatar, scoring one goal and laying on two assists for his teammates as Fernando Santos’ side reached the quarter-finals in the Middle East, according to the same stats provider.

Whilst Edu may be frustrated that the club may have to pay an extortionate loan fee plus Félix’s wages, his presence on the pitch could be enough to secure Arsenal their first Premier League title since 2003, something which would be well worth any fee alone.
