The Champions League

Eden Hazard: “In 2018 I was maybe in the top 10 in the world. I don’t think I’ll ever get back to that level.”

Eden Hazard gave an interview to L’Equipe on Belgium’s prospects at the World Cup, which also appeared on Mundo Deportivo.

The Belgian forward admitted that he doesn’t have the form that he had in 2018:

“To be honest, I don’t have that level anymore. I’m not showing it because I’ve suffered a lot mentally and physically, I’m not ashamed to say it. In 2018 I was maybe in the top 10 in the world. I don’t think I’ll ever get back to that level, but if my body allows me to, I can still do great things.”

Hazard also revealed that while he thinks Belgium were in a better position to win the World Cup in Russia than they are now, they can still cause an upset:

“There’s no need to hide, we are less strong than in 2018, but we have stronger young players than in Russia. The quality is there and anything can happen. In big games that quality allows you to make the difference. Madrid were underdogs in the Champions League and Karim scored all the important goals and Courtois saved everything.”

Belgium kick off their World Cup campaign against Canada on Wednesday.
