Door slammed shut on Atletico Madrid dream target as destination for Manchester City star becomes clear

Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez could be one of the more interesting players on the move this summer. The Argentine World Cup-winner has not eeked out a place in Pep Guardiola’s starting team, and is keen for more of a central role.

Alvarez, 24, has been outlined as the dream target for Atletico Madrid this summer, who will look to tempt him into a move to the Spanish capital through teammates Angel Correa and Rodrigo de Paul. They have also been in contact with City, but were turned down in both cases.

Manchester City’s demands appear to rule out any move for him, with Fabrizio Romano explaining to Caught Offside that he is too expensive for Los Rojiblancos, and Alvarez will not leave the club on loan. Manchester United and Chelsea have also been linked to Alvarez, but the real interest is coming from Paris Saint-Germain, explained the Italian transfer insider, and they are perhaps the only side that can afford his €90m asking price.

It seems Atletico will be looking at a more traditional number nine this summer. Artem Dovbyk, Alexander Sorloth and Serhou Guirassy have all been reported as targets, but it is the Girona forward that Los Rojiblancos are in talks for. The Ukrainian has a €40m asking price, but Atletico are hoping to reduce that price.
