US President Donald Trump has already learned whether UFC President Dana White will take him up on his offer of becoming the White House Press Secretary.
Trump’s offer wasn’t only extended to White but also some legendary UFC fighters to assist him in his new job. The pair hold a strong friendship through the UFC and Trump regularly attends events as a guest.
It’s been a particularly difficult week for Trump after the US midterm elections led to sweeping victories for Democrats. He’s been forced into making changes to his cabinet after Chief of Staff Susie Wiles resigned and was replaced with hardline immigration adviser Stephen Miller.
Donald Trump Makes Offer to Dana White And UFC Fighters
Trump had also sought to bring White into the White House as Press Secretary and some of the very best fighters to have fought in the Octagon to be by his side. In a post on Truth Social, he wrote: “Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job!”
The White Press Secretary job has been vacant since last month after Trump fired Katie Zacharia after just a few days in the job. There has been speculation over how genuine the president’s offer is as he also proposed UFC royalty as assistants:
“I have requested that he bring with him assistants, even though some are not from our Country, of Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and Kayla Harris.”
Trump called on White, a ‘violent Fighter and Warrior’ and the rest to ‘defend us against the Lunatic Left.’ None of the individuals he requested have ever held a job in office, and it doesn’t look like they will be doing so anytime soon.
Dana White Declines Trump’s Offer
Just hours after Trump’s offer was made, CNN reported that a source familiar with the matter said that White had declined. One aide is believed to have claimed the president was joking but he is searching for a new press secretary.
White is instead focusing on the UFC, Power Slap and Zuffa Boxing. He has been at loggerheads with British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn over his involvement in the upcoming Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury fight on December 11th at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.
The 57-year-old has been chief executive officer and president of the UFC since February 2001. He is one of the most successful businessmen in sports and has been a Trump supporter throughout both of the US President’s terms.
