Didier Deschamps has called on his players to make an impression and stake a claim during this international break with Euro 2024 fast approaching.
Those players on the fringe of Les Bleus’ setup don’t have too much more time to impress Deschamps. Once the current international break is complete, there will be just one more before Euro 2024 in June. Warren Zaïre-Emery is one of the players looking to stake a claim in the coming days, having earned his first call-up, as is Khéphren Thuram, who has benefitted from Eduardo Camavinga’s injury to make the France squad for the first time since March.
Speaking in a press conference, transcribed by Get French Football News, Deschamps said that some of his players are aware that they are playing for their places in Euro 2024. “They know. With the absentees, they know it very well. With the competition, they understand. The game time that they get, it will be in their interest to play as well as possible. To get the responses, we can’t put them on the bench,” said the France manager.
Les Bleus face Gibraltar in Nice on Saturday, before facing Greece on Tuesday and it seems like some of those fringe players, such as Khéphren Thuram, will get their chance.
