Dharmesh Sheth reveals transfer plan at the Emirates

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta would love to make more than one signing in the January transfer window if he “had his way”, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Gunners are locked in talks with Shakhtar Donetsk and Atletico Madrid respectively over bringing Mykhaylo Mudryk and Joao Felix to the Emirates this month.

Arsenal Transfer News – Mykhaylo Mudryk and Joao Felix

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the north London side are chasing both players’ signatures in this January window, while The Telegraph have revealed the Gunners are stepping up their pursuit of Felix.

Despite Arsenal’s inability to reach an agreement with Shakhtar over a fee for Mudryk just yet, Fabrizio Romano has insisted the Gunners remain “confident” that they can sign the Ukraine international in these next few weeks.

What did Dharmesh Sheth say about Arsenal’s transfer plans?

When asked whether Arsenal could look to make more than just the one signing in January, Sheth suggested that Arteta would certainly be on board, but that the club’s long-term plan would be the key focus.

He said: “I mean if Arteta had his way, then yes. I think what they are thinking about though, is a long-term plan at Arsenal. Generally, they’ve gone into the market in the summer, particularly the last two summers.

“So that’s normally the focus of any club, not just Arsenal. They look at the summer transfer window as the main one where they can do realistic business.”

Arsenal desperately need both Mudryk and Felix at the Emirates

After enjoying back-to-back wins in their opening two games in the Premier League after the World Cup, Arteta’s side were held to a goalless draw by Newcastle last time out.

The contest was largely overshadowed by the Magpies’ dark arts and things getting tetchy on the side-line, but it definitely shined a light on the Gunners’ lack of strength in depth going forward.

Not trusting either of Fabio Vieira or Marquinhos to come on and change the game, Arteta was restricted to bringing on right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu in a bid to find that all-important goal.

While Emile Smith Rowe could be available soon, the absences of both Reiss Nelson and Gabriel Jesus have robbed Arsenal of a couple of much-needed attacking options – exactly why both Mudryk and Felix are desperately needed.

The Gunners next face Tottenham and Manchester United in the Premier League, and Arteta will no doubt be hoping that he can at least get one fresh face in before those fixtures take place.
