Details behind Napoli’s interest in Roberto De Zerbi

Serie A side Napoli see Roberto De Zerbi as their potential new head coach for next season.

Speaking in an interview with Calcio Napoli 24, journalist Carlo Alvino highlighted the points behind Napoli’s interest in Roberto De Zerbi. After Premier League outfits Brighton confirmed his departure, De Zerbi is currently being quoted by numerous European clubs and the Partenopei hope to become the leading pack.

Alvino remarked that Napoli CEO Aurelio De Laurentiis appreciates the former Sassuolo manager’s tactical approach and made a phone call to understand his plans.

He said: “De Laurentiis made an exploratory phone call; he wanted to understand if there was a willingness to return to Italy, a way to understand if Napoli fit into De Zerbi’s plans.”

Despite primary contacts, Carlo Alvino remained neutral in his opinion of whether De Zerbi would end up in Naples. He commented: “On De Zerbi, I remain in the middle.” As Antonio Conte is also looking for a job, Napoli’s first choice is clear. Alvino said: “Conte would be an instant coach to win immediately. He rebuilds the team from the rubble and is a strong character.”

Milan are also being linked with a move for De Zerbi, who is set to leave Brighton and he will not be joining Bayern Munich this summer.
