Swiss striker Filip Stojilkovic joined then 2., Bundesliga side SV Darmstadt 98 last Jaunty for what was then a record transfer sum shelled out by the Hessen-based club. The 23-year-old €1.6 million record signing did lend the Lillies some support during the second half of their promotion campaign last season, scoring three goals in 16 appearances across all competitions.

The Swiss youth international nevertheless ended up falling well short of expectations, both in last-year’s promotion campaign and in this year’s tough fight to remain in the diction. Stojilkovic has barely featured under head-coach Torsten Lieberknecht at all this year, despite the fact that the team finds itself in critical need of help at the striker position.

In his most recent post-match presser, Lieberknecht admitted that he was disappointed in the player’s performance off the pitch and his attitude on it. Signs point to a separation over the coming January transfer window. Stojilkovic maintains an estimated market worth of €1.7 million in the latest transfermarkt listings and was once a highly sought after commodity in German football.

A buyer could still potentially be found for the former FC Sion star, who also excelled during a loan stint with FC Aarau in the Swiss second division. Darmstadt may seek to recoup a small amount of their investment with a sale sending Stojilkovic back to Switzerland. Kicker Magazine Darmstadt correspondent Stephan Köhnlein reports that the club is seeking a solution before Christmas.
