Confirmed: Barcelona miss out as prime target Lucas Bergvall chooses Tottenham

La Liga giants Barcelona have this evening been dealt a hefty blow on the transfer front.

This comes by way of confirmation that chief winter target Lucas Bergvall has opted to reject the advances of the Blaugrana, in favour of taking his talents to the Premier League.

The name of midfielder Bergvall has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital over the course of the last 48 hours.

This comes after Barca’s long-standing efforts to bring the Swedish sensation in from Djurgårdens finally appeared set to bear fruit.

Bergvall, for his part, was spotted in Spain on Tuesday, to hold direct discussions with Blaugrana sporting director Deco.

The talks were widely reported as having been productive, with official confirmation of Bergvall’s winter move to the Camp Nou, as a result, having been labelled as all but imminent.

And yet, as the hours have continued to pass, as much has failed to come to pass.

And, as alluded to above, late tonight, an explanation for precisely why has been provided.

The info comes courtesy of transfer insider David Ornstein of The Athletic, who has confirmed that Bergvall has come to the definitive decision to reject Barcelona’s proposal.

Instead, the 17-year-old is primed to put pen to paper on terms with Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur, in a €10 million deal.

Bergvall will fly to north London to undergo his medical on Friday, before signing a five-year contract with Ange Postecoglou’s side.
