Paris Saint-Germain head coach Christophe Galtier has given an update on Lionel Messi’s potential contract extension. The World Cup winner is tied to a contract set to expire next June. RMC Sport reported yesterday that an agreement in principle had been in place for the last few weeks, but the length of the new contract, as well as the wages, have yet to be worked out. Messi wants to renew on conditions not too dissimilar to those of Kylian Mbappé, but PSG are unwilling to give in to all of his demands.
Speaking in his pre-game press conference that L’Équipe attended, with PSG hosting Rennes on Sunday for Ligue 1 gameweek 28, Galtier has confirmed that talks are ongoing regarding the future of Messi in the French capital. “I know that Leo, the football management and the president [Nasser Al Khelaifi] talk a lot to each other. If he is to stay, it will be according to the desires of all parties.” The Paris Saint-Germain has lauded the Argentine playmaker’s performancces, both on and off the pitch. “He is happy in the dressing room. He has scored 18 goals and registered 17 assists. He was decisive very often. He’s an important player through his behaviour in the dressing room.” Messi resumed full training this Friday after missing out on Thursday.
