Chelsea are not currently in talks to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The west London club tried to bring the 18-year-old to Stamford Bridge during the summer but were not able to convince the Saints to sell in the end.
How serious was Chelsea’s interest in Lavia?
Very. Despite Lavia only joining Southampton from Manchester City in July, Romano revealed that Chelsea made a £50m offer for him on deadline day.
Unsurprisingly, the south coast club rejected their bid. The Blues, however, were still able to recruit a midfielder after they brought in Denis Zakaria from Juventus on loan.
With the transfer window reopening in January, Chelsea, of course, could go back in for the 18-year-old.
A deal is still likely to be complicated, though, with City having a £40m buy-back clause that they could be tempted to trigger if Chelsea continue to sniff around their former youth player.
What has Romano said about Lavia and Chelsea?
Romano has told GIVEMESPORT that there are no negotiations going on right now between Chelsea and Southampton for Lavia.
Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “I’m curious to see if they will return for Romeo Lavia or not because, honestly, the reality now is that there are no negotiations. There are no talks between Southampton and Chelsea for Romeo Lavia.”

Do Chelsea need Lavia?
Signing a midfielder like Lavia would make a lot of sense for the Blues. N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are in their 30s now and both players are out of contract next summer. When you consider that, it is clear that they need to start planning for the future.
At just 18 years of age, Lavia looks like a good succession plan. In fact, he has already shown Chelsea what he can do after scoring against them in Southampton’s 2-1 win at St Mary’s earlier this season.
As per WhoScored, he currently has the highest pass success rate in Nathan Jones’ squad, while only one of his team-mates, Armel Bella-Kotchap, is making more interceptions per game than him.
Ultimately, if Chelsea and Graham Potter are looking for a young midfielder to come in and replace one of Kante or Jorginho, Lavia is not a bad option to consider.
Again, though, it does not look like an easy deal to do, with Southampton only signing him in the last transfer window, while City obviously have that buy-back option.
