Chelsea ‘in contact with people close’ to 60-goal striker at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea are “in contact with people close to” Marcus Thuram, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano told GIVEMESPORT.

Having wrapped the Joao Felix deal up, Romano now claims Chelsea will switch their attention to the out-of-contract Thuram.

Chelsea transfer news – Marcus Thuram

Earlier in the window, transfer insider Dean Jones revealed to GMS that Chelsea could welcome up to five signings in January. It came amid interest in deals for Andrey Santos, Benoit Badiashile and David Datro Fofana, with all three of those signings having since been completed.

Since then, a fourth name has been welcomed through the Stamford Bridge doors, with wantaway star Felix recently putting pen to paper on a six-month loan deal from Atletico Madrid. Felix, who labelled Chelsea as “one of the great teams in the world”, joins a Blues side languishing down the Premier League table in 10th (Sky Sports).

Part of the reason behind Chelsea’s struggles this season has been a lack of goals, with neither former boss Thomas Tuchel, or incumbent manager Graham Potter able to tune their attacks. No side inside the top 10 have scored fewer goals than Chelsea this term, with their tally of 20 after 17 games the eighth-worst record in the division.

In need of a shakeup, Chelsea could once again dip their toe in the market, this time targeting a recognised centre-forward.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Thuram and Chelsea?

Desperate for a change of fortunes in the league, Chelsea could turn their transfer market attention to Thuram, with Romano claiming the Blues are eyeing up a deal for the forward during an interview with GMS.

“I think it’s possible for Chelsea to move for one more striker,” Romano revealed to GMS.

“After closing the Felix deal, they have been in contact with people close to Marcus Thuram. They’ve now changed their stance and will proceed for the player.”

How would Thuram change Chelsea’s current situation?

With a contract that’s set to expire come the end of the campaign, Thuram’s name has been in the headlines throughout January, as clubs consider a move for the Borussia Monchengladbach attacker.

Following a season-ending injury to Armando Broja, Chelsea are rumoured to be in the market for a centre-forward, with Monchengladbach’s Thuram mooted as a realistic target. As per 90min, Thuram is on Chelsea’s radar and the west Londoners are confident of securing a bargain move for the Frenchman.

Having netted a remarkable 10 goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances for Monchengladbach this season, it’s clear Thuram has an eye for goal – something Chelsea have dearly missed so far this term. What’s more, Thuram ranks inside the top seven per cent of forwards for non-penalty goals per 90 minutes, indicating he’d offer a potent threat up top for Potter’s side (Fbref).
