Chelsea in ‘best position’ to sign £70m star likened to N’Golo Kante

Chelsea will be in the best position to sign Moises Caicedo whenever Brighton & Hove Albion decide to sell him, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The midfielder is being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, and while Jones cannot see the Seagulls sanctioning a sale in January, he has suggested that something may very well happen in the near future.

Chelsea transfer news – Moises Caicedo

According to Sky Sports, both Chelsea and their Premier League rivals Liverpool are interested in signing Caicedo.

However, the same outlet claims that Brighton have no intention of parting with the 21-year-old when the transfer window opens next month.

Caicedo has a contract until 2025, so the south coast club are under no pressure to sell him.

They also sold Marc Cucurella to Chelsea for big money back in August, so it is understandable that they do not want to lose another key player.

What has Dean Jones said about Moises Caicedo and Chelsea?

When Brighton do eventually decide to sell Caicedo, Jones thinks Chelsea will be the frontrunners for his signature due to the player’s relationship with former manager Graham Potter.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “I don’t think Brighton will sell him in January, but whenever the time comes, I expect Chelsea to be in the best position to sign him because of the relationship with Graham Potter.”

What type of midfielder is Caicedo?

Caicedo has been compared to both N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba by the MailOnline.

As per FBref, he has ranked in the 84th percentile for tackles and the 82nd for blocks among his positional peers over the last year, so he is clearly a midfielder who can thwart attacks like Chelsea’s France international.

At the World Cup, the Brighton star also averaged two tackles per game, putting him in the top five Ecuador players for that category (via WhoScored).

Ultimately, with Kante out of contract next summer, perhaps Caicedo could be a good replacement for him.

While Brighton look to be against the idea of selling Caicedo, one report from The Sun claims they could actually be willing to do business at £70m.

It is huge money, but that has not bothered Chelsea in the past, while Caicedo also has time to develop into an even better midfielder. He could make a huge impact at Stamford Bridge now and in the future if the Blues can get something done.
