Carlos Vicens likely to replace Paulo Fonseca at Lyon

Carlos Vicens is the likely successor to Paulo Fonseca at Olympique Lyonnais, as per a report from L’Équipe. The latter is Sporting CP-bound.

Talks between Fonseca, Lyon, and Sporting CP are described as advanced. The deal is expected to be worth around €5m for OL, who will also save the Portuguese manager’s considerable salary. Fonseca was in tears during Sunday’s win over SCO Angers and L’Équipe reported that he announced his impending departure to his squad on Monday.

As a replacement, Thiago Motta was offered up, whilst Pierre Sage had also been linked with the hot seat at the Groupama Stadium. Reappointing the Crystal Palace manager was, however, described as impossible.

Instead, it is Vicens who is set to take over at OL. He has been in talks with OL for several days. No deal will be done before the international break.

Vicens has been out of a job since being relieved of his duties by SC Braga in late October. Prior to his move to the Portuguese club in July 2025, Vicens had been an assistant at Manchester City.
