Carlo Ancelotti discusses Eden Hazard and Cacereño’s football pitch

In his post-match interview that appeared on AS following Real Madrid’s 1-0 victory against Cacereño in the round of last 32, Carlo Ancelotti discussed Los Blancos’ performance.

The Italian coach was asked whether he doubted that Real Madrid would not get the victory they needed to progress:

“No, not at any time. It was competitive and evenly matched, the best quality we have wasn’t seen on a pitch where you couldn’t play on level terms. I liked everything, from the first minute to the last, we knew we had to suffer, we didn’t risk anything at the back and this is our second game without conceding.”

The Italian coach was not impressed with the quality of the pitch:

“You can’t play on it. For me, it’s not football, it’s another sport. I’s nice because the small teams can compete against the big teams, it’s good for the fans, but the fans also want to see good football matches.”

Ancelotti also discussed the performance of Eden Hazard:

“I liked it, but it’s difficult to evaluate the level of the players individually on days like this. It was impossible to play. For players like him and Rodrygo, for the younger ones, it’s difficult on days like this, they suffer. But he has delivered.”
