Joao Cancelo made an instant impact for Bayern Munich after his Deadline Day loan move from Manchester City as he started and set up a goal in his new club’s 4-0 victory over Mainz in the DFB-Pokal last night.
After the game, Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann and president Herbert Hainer spoke highly of the 28-year-old Portuguese right-back.
“He did very well and implemented what we wanted. He has a lot of creativity,” said Nagelsmann.
“You could see what a world-class footballer he is. He will be really good for us,” noted Hainer.
Cancelo’s new teammates were also impressed with what they saw from him.
“For his first game in a new team, it was a pretty good performance. It was a top start,” said Thomas Müller in a post-match interview.
“He has enormous quality,” noted Joshua Kimmich.
“I think we’re going to have a lot of fun with him.”
