Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes claims there had been no clear-the-air talks between himself and head coach Michael Carrick.
Fernandes stunned everyone by publicly criticising Carrick’s tactics in the wake of United’s 4-1 loss at Como.
The 32-year-old was subsequently dropped for the Bournemouth defeat at Old Trafford.
It was reported at the time that clear-the-air talks had taken place between Fernandes and Carrick before the midfielder was brought back in the team against Chelsea.
But speaking after United’s 3-2 win over Roma on Tuesday, the Portuguese has denied that is the case.
“It’s been tough, there’s been a lot of speculation in the media,” Fernandes told Amazon Prime.
“A lot of lies around many things that have happened between me and the manager, that we have cleared the air, then after that the manager took the decision to put me on the bench because I’m not performing. That’s fair.”
Fernandes failed to make an impact in Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Chelsea.
He squandered a brilliant scoring opportunity, blasting over the bar in the first half.
The Portugal international created one big chance and won five of his 11 ground duels. He lost possession 31 times and failed to register any shots on target.
Fernandes was not at his best against Roma and missed a good scoring chance just before half-time.
However, he kept his composure to drive home a twice-taken penalty to spark United’s comeback.
Matheus Cunha capitalised on Leonardo Balerdi’s error to level the scores. The Brazilian forward then grabbed the winner with a superb strike four minutes from time.
The result ended United’s nine-game winless run in all competitions.
Fernandes had 67 touches in the game and completed 87 percent of his passes.
He registered five key passes, four total shots and four ball recoveries.
The experienced midfielder won just one of his five duels and lost possession 12 times.
Fernandes will hope to produce another impressive display when his team face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.
Carrick’s future as head coach is still under major threat and a bad result against the Midlands club could spell the end of his reign at Old Trafford.
Fernandes has been United’s best signing since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
He has scored 112 goals and provided 110 assists in 340 appearances, helping his side win the FA Cup and League Cup.
