Brighton and Hove Albion have confirmed they have completed the signing of Billy Gilmour from Chelsea.
The 21-year-old started his youth career at Rangers before joining the Blues in 2017. He quickly progressed through the ranks to earn his senior debut at the age of 18.
Since then, the Scot has made 22 appearances across all competitions at Stamford Bridge.
He was loaned out to Norwich City for the 2021-22 season, where he made 24 Premier League appearances with an assist to his name.
The central midfielder returned to the West London club in the summer but he clearly wasn’t a part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans for this campaign.
Gilmour has now joined Brighton on a four-year deal for a £9 million transfer fee, according to The Sun.
The Seagulls were in the market for a new midfielder following the departure of Yves Bissouma to Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the window.
Gilmour looks like a good fit for them. He is only 21 but has already earned 15 caps for the Scotland national team.
Last season, he made 1.7 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 1.2 clearances per game in the English top-flight. He also averaged 47 passes per match with an incredible 83 percent pass success percentage (as per WhoScored).
Graham Potter’s side have made a good start to the new season. They have won three of their five matches so far, including a brilliant 2-1 victory over Manchester United in their league opener last month.
They are currently fourth in the Premier League standings, having 10 points.
