‘Breakout star’ could now cost £100m at St James’ Park – GiveMeSport

Newcastle United could have to pay up to £100m to sign Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

A £50m price tag has been mentioned, but Jones thinks clubs face having to cough up double that if they want to sign the 21-year-old.

Newcastle transfer news – Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

According to The Times, Kvaratskhelia has emerged as a transfer target for Eddie Howe and Newcastle.

The same outlet claims that he is valued at around £50m amid an impressive season in Naples.

The Georgian joined Napoli from Dinamo Batumi during the summer and has thoroughly impressed for Luciano Spalletti’s side.

In 12 Serie A appearances, Kvaratskhelia has produced over 10 goal contributions, as per Transfermarkt. He has also scored a couple of times in the Champions League, so it is no surprise that other clubs are already looking at him despite his recent arrival at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

What has Dean Jones said about Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Newcastle?

Jones doubts Newcastle will be able to sign Kvaratskhelia for £50m.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “I mean, you see that as soon as a player does well, they [clubs] push them towards that £100m mark, so with the kind of breakout that he’s had, to say £50m is probably unrealistic.”

Will Newcastle land Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in January?

It seems unlikely. It is hard to imagine Napoli selling any of their top players right now given where they are in Serie A.

Spalletti’s men currently find themselves at the summit of the table, fighting for the title. As things stand, they are eight points ahead of AC Milan in second. If they sell Kvaratskhelia now, they could end up undoing all of that hard work.

Alan Shearer celebrating scoring

Premier League and Newcastle United all-time top goalscorer Alan Shearer is a true legend of the game, but when did he leave their club?

It also appears that Newcastle face having to pay an incredible amount of money for Kvaratskhelia if Napoli do decide to sell him next month. Following their Saudi-backed takeover, the Magpies probably have the funds to bring him to St James’ Park. However, it is hard to imagine them spending £100m on a single player if that is his price tag.

At this stage, there probably is not a need for them to either. Newcastle’s project is way ahead of schedule, with Howe’s side fighting for Champions League football right now.

All in all, Kvaratskhelia looks like an extremely talented player; however, he does not seem to be on the market at present, or at least not for a reasonable price.
