Speaking at Germany’s pre-match press conference (via @iMiaSanMia), Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck addressed recent rumours about Bayern Munich.
In the past few weeks, there has been an increase in rumours surrounding Bayern and their interest in Dortmund defender Schlotterbeck. Coincidentally, Bayern play die Schwarzgelben this Saturday in the Der Klassiker.
When asked about the interest from the Rekordmeister, Schlotterbeck said:
“I can’t say anything about that”
This has inevitably been blown out of proportion, and this now means that the 25-year-old is set to join Bayern next summer.
While this statement could be used as a continued bargaining position from the defender to help get his demands. The defender’s contract at the Signal Iduna Park expires in 2027, and die Schwarzgelben have already made their first offer.
Dortmund’s priority is to extend the 25-year-old’s contract as they see him as a future captain of the club and a leader of the defence.
Dortmund’s contingency planning:
In the case that Schlotterbeck does leave the Westfalenstadion in the summer, then they have begun to look for potential replacements. One is Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, who played under Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac when the duo were at AS Monaco. The only problem is that Disasi is a right-footed defender, while Schlotterbeck favours his left.
