Serie A side Bologna lost to Liverpool in the Champions League at Anfield but they put on a brave effort against a much-superior outfit.
The Rossoblu conceded a goal each in each half but also had chances of their own that they could have buried. While Liverpool also had more chances, Bologna stuck to their guns and Vincenzo Italiano’s side showed exactly what their identity is, with their playing style despite the hiccups.
It could have been far worse but the tactical approach on show and the fact that Liverpool were left rattled many times will leave Bologna with some encouragement in what has been a less than impressive campaign so far.
Orsolini had a big chance himself in the game and he spoke to Sky about the game, as relayed by TMW:
“Yes, there is so much pride and emotion. In football you can win or lose, but as we say that by exploiting our game and enhancing our principles. Coming here is not easy for any team in the world, let alone for a reality like ours. Desire and pride. A less bitter defeat for us.”
He also spoke about why Bologna tried to be more direct in their approach and whether Italiano had instructed them to do just that.
“Yes, he immediately transmitted it to us, we immediately look for depth, for strikers. Doing it here was not easy, but we tried to do it anyway. When you play like this you take risks and responsibilities, even though we knew that we were facing an opponent who was at times unplayable. It remains a legendary evening.”
No one expected Bologna to get anything from this game but for a project which has just started, it was indeed a very promising show.
