In recent weeks, Barcelona have been strongly linked with Joshua Kimmich, and those rumours increased further when it was announced that Hansi Flick would be their next manager. As it turns out, a midfielder could be moving in the opposite direction to Bavaria, that being Frenkie de Jong.

According to Bild (via Sport), Bayern have re-ignited their interest in de Jong, whose future as a Barcelona player has been under the microscope in recent months. Barcelona want to extend his contract, which expires in 2026, but so far, no talks are scheduled, which has led to club bosses considering a possible sale.
However, Flick considers de Jong to be an important figure in his squad, and he would prefer a sale did not occur. He believes that the Dutch international will be a very valuable player to rely on.
It remains to be seen how de Jong’s situation plays out over the summer. It’s most likely that nothing happens, given that Flick – and the player himself – do not want a departure from Barcelona to take place.
