RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba is the subject of transfer interest from Bayern Munich and Liverpool this summer, according to Foot Mercato.
Since joining Leipzig from Olympique Lyonnais in 2023, Lukeba has established himself as a mainstay for the Bundesliga outfit.
He was tasked with filling the void left by Josko Gvardiol’s departure to Manchester City in his debut season, and he rose to the occasion.
However, Lukeba endured a relatively underwhelming 2024-25 season largely due to a thigh problem that limited his appearances across all competitions to 31 games.
Lukeba remains highly rated, with both Bayern and Liverpool actively monitoring his situation. Tottenham Hotspur are also reportedly in the mix.
Bayern are targeting reinforcements at the back as Kim Min-jae’s future at the Allianz Arena continues to hang in the balance. The Bavarians have been linked with a move for Chelsea’s Renato Veiga.
Liverpool are in the market for a new centre-back amid the uncertainty surrounding Ibrahima Konate’s contractual situation.
They are the favourites to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, but further defensive acquisitions could be on the way.
Lukeba is under contract until 2029, following a recent extension that includes a release clause of €90 million.
However, Leipzig and the player have an understanding that he could be allowed to leave for a lower fee, especially after the club missed out on qualifying for the Champions League next season.
Leipzig is open to a move this summer, motivated by the desire to play regular Champions League football and continue his progression at the highest level.
