Bayer Leverkusen part ways with squad manager Tim Steidten

Bayer Leverkusen have parted ways with high-rated squad manager and scout Time Steidten, as reported by Kicker

The 43-year-old moved to B04 in 2019 from Werder Bremen. Working under sports director Simon Rolfes, Steidten has been responsible for securing a number of young talents who have gone on to attract attention from around the world. Some of the players Steidten attracted to Bayer include Edmond Tapsoba, Jeremie Frimpong, and Piero Hincapie.

Known as the pearl diver, it comes as a bit of a surprise that Bayer would let such an asset go with immediate effect. His qualities have also attracted the attention of Premier League side Chelsea. Towards the end of last year, Steidten was in talks with the London club about joining their team in a similar position that he then held at Bayer.

The club must now act fast to replace Steidten. B04 have little chance of securing Champions League or European football this season. An experienced squad manager and scout such as Steidten would go a long way to helping the team get back to its former glory.
