Barcelona’s summer plan for Mika Faye confirmed

An insight into the summer plans of the powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona for up-and-coming defender Mikayil Faye has today been provided.

And the news will no doubt be met with excitement on the part of the Barcelona faithful.

This comes amid confirmation that Faye, as things stand, is set to be afforded a chance to prove himself worthy of a first-team spot for next season.

The 19-year-old has of course seen his name in lights over the course of recent weeks, his stellar exploits with Barca Atlètic having culminated in call-ups to both Xavi’s first-team squad, and the Senegalese senior setup.

Amid something of a logjam in the heart of defence in Catalunya’s capital owing to the emergence of Pau Cubarsí, it has been suggested that the Blaugrana brass could move to cash in on Faye in the summer, amid mounting interest in his services from across the continent.

If the latest word stemming from the media on Tuesday is anything to go by, however, then as much will not come before Faye is afforded a legitimate chance to prove himself to his current employers.

As per a report from Diario Sport:

‘At FC Barcelona it is already clear that Mika Faye will be part of the first team’s preseason in the summer.’

Though a sale has not yet been definitively ruled out, the young stopper will link up with Barca’s senior ranks for the duration of their pre-season training camp, to allow the club’s new head coach to run the rule over Faye’s talents.

Should he be considered ready, the Senegalese will in turn remain in Catalunya for 2024/25, to fight it out for a regular starting berth.

On the other hand, if Faye is deemed too raw, he could well be farmed out, either on loan, or a permanent deal featuring a buyback option.

The preference of the player himself, as things stand, is to prove himself in Blaugrana colours.
