Barcelona set to offer new deal to defender Ronald Araújo

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are set to offer a new lucrative contract to defender Ronald Araújo amid reports linking him with a move away from the club. The Blaugrana are expected to propose a deal, which would see him stay at the club beyond 2026.

Transfer expert Florian Plettenberg has suggested that Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel would like to bring in Araújo and has earmarked him as a priority singing. The German manager is a big fan of the 24-year-old and would like to partner him with summer-signing Kim Min Jae.

The player is open to moving as Bayern Munich have been following his development over the last two years and are monitoring his current situation, however, Barca have no intention of selling the centre-back, who is viewed as a vital part of Xavi Hernández’s plans.

The Uruguay international has featured in huge clashes in Europe and in the league since Xavi has been in charge, further cementing his position as one of the best centre-backs in Europe. The Catalan club therefore want to offer a new deal to the player to thwart Bayern’s efforts to sign him.

A new deal for the player is considered a priority as the Bundesliga champions have a genuine interest and this could mean that they accelerate their efforts to sign him.

Araújo has made 12 appearances this season in all competitions, scoring one goal in the process. The defender has helped the Catalan club win three trophies over the past five seasons, including one La Liga title.
