Barcelona set for timely injury boost vs Alavés

La Liga champions Barcelona are increasingly confident in their chances of having an important member of the club’s defensive ranks back available for selection this weekend.

This comes amid the understanding that Jules Koundé is closing on an imminent return to competitive duties.

Stopper Koundé was for his part forced to sit out both of Barcelona’s two most recent fixtures, defeats at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

This came owing to an ankle sprain suffered during a recent La Liga victory over Real Betis.

The Frenchman has spent recent days ramping up his recovery efforts, with Hansi Flick having actually been hopeful of having Koundé back in time for last weekend’s El Clásico.

And though this did not ultimately prove to be the case, the former Sevilla man should be available for selection this coming weekend.

As per a report from Barcelona insider Javier Miguel of Diario AS:

‘The French defender, despite still not training with the group, is expected to be available this Saturday against Alavés.’
