In a visit to the Spotify Camp Nou to oversee the refurbishment, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta used the opportunity to reiterate his ongoing support for manager Xavi.
Barcelona’s recent performances have not been up to par and have meant they are now four points adrift of league leaders Girona and suffered a bad loss against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League. Their poor run of form has led to some speculation over Xavi’s future at the club; however, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, the hierarchy continues to trust the manager and believe he is the right man.
In his visit to the stadium, Laporta said, “We are in a good position in the league and in the Champions League. I want to make it very clear, as Deco and others have already, that we are completely on Xavi’s side and that it is an honour to have him as our manager. At this moment, it is important to be united. We now have a period where injured players can heal, and Xavi will have them available again.”
The comments come after Xavi complained that the negative press is having a negative effect on the team following the loss in El Clásico. Despite the results, though, it is clear that the hierarchy continues to support the manager.
