Barca offered soon-to-be free agent Marcus Thuram

Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram will not continue with Die Fohlen any longer than next summer when his contract is due to expire.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have been offered the chance to sign the France international on a free transfer.

Barca are one of several clubs in Europe vying for the 25-year-old’s signature, and his versatility appeals to the Blaugranas, who are looking to beat the competition.

The Spanish giants have been financially crippled by their economic situation, forcing them to target players who are soon-to-be free agents.

They are looking to sign a striker to provide competition for Rober Lewandowski, and Thuram checks all their boxes, especially his ability to play anywhere across the front three.

However, they will face competition from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid, who are also keeping tabs on the Frenchman.

Thuram is currently having a season to remember with Die Fohlen. He has netted 14 goals and provided four assists in 23 appearances thus far.

His goal contributions have been pivotal to Daniel Farke’s side, who are languishing in midtable in the Bundesliga, 13 points off the top four.

Barca have been scouting Thuram for a while, and the club’s directors, Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff have determined that he fits into the club’s philosophy.

Barca manager Xavi Hernandez already has several options to choose from in attack, but Thuram could prove a shrewd acquisition for the Spanish giants.

The former Guingamp striker, who has been capped nine times by the French national team, will add speed and strength to Barca’s attack.

His father Lilian Thuram, who played for Barca between 2006 and 2008, has also been pushing for his son to join the Blaugranas.
