There’s a Madrid derby on Saturday at the Civitas Metropolitano with Getafe paying Atletico a visit. The pressure is really building on Quique Sanchez Flores and he’d dearly love a result up against his former employers here.

It’s quite possible that both of these clubs will have different coaches next season with Diego Simeone’s future at Atletico Madrid now looking very uncertain. Results and performances have been nowhere near good enough this season and you have to wonder if a fresh direction is needed. There are still 19 league games to go though and in the absence of cup distractions, Atleti really should have enough to clinch Champions League qualification once more.

They are 4th heading into the weekend after a good win at Osasuna last time out, a decent response to the cup exit at the Bernabeu. Their winner came from an unlikely source with forgotten man Saul Niguez coming off the bench to race clear and fire a cool finish past Aitor Fernandez for the game’s only goal. The midfielder had been linked with a January move but will be hoping to forge his way back into Simeone’s thinking on a more regular basis now.

Over in Getafe, these are now genuinely worrying times. They sit just one place off the bottom on the back of four straight defeats and unlike many of the struggling teams, they perhaps surprisingly opted not to invest in January. The only addition was midfielder Gonzalo Villar who rejoins on another loan from Roma having only made a very limited impression in 10 appearances and just 2 starts at the club last season.

The fans have been calling for the departure of the coach with Pepe Bordalas linked with a return to the Coliseum. Quique Sanchez Flores continues for now though and he is at least boosted here with Mauro Arambarri fit again although the Uruguayan may not be ready to start this game.

Despite their poor form, Getafe haven’t fallen apart defensively and they showed a fortnight ago at Barcelona that they can go and compete away from home in tough fixtures. Atleti aren’t exactly playing free flowing football or creating many chances so they may have to be patient here but they ought to find a winner at some point in the game.
