Jadon Sancho is reportedly “open” to joining Aston Villa amid a return to Manchester United, where he has “little to no future”.
The English winger spent last season on loan at Chelsea, but the Blues opted out of a £25m obligation to buy by paying a £5m penalty. His £300,000 per week wages have proved an issue, and there’s no way back for him at Old Trafford after several off-the-field controversies.
Graeme Bailey (via United in Focus) claims that Sancho’s camp are trying to find a solution and Villa have emerged as a potential option. He could join the Villans on loan in a similar deal to the one that saw Marcus Rashford spend the second half of last season with Unai Emery’s side.
Aston Villa Could Move For Sancho
The Man Utd winger wants to stay in Europe
Sancho enjoyed his best season in English football to date while at Chelsea. However, it was still well short of how many envisioned he’d perform after moving to United from Borussia Dortmund in a £73m deal.
The 25-year-old still has some admirers, including Emery, who could try to use his time with Rashford as an example of getting a tune out of a struggling player. Bailey wrote:
“I’m told that one of the clubs that are open to a potential move for Sancho are Villa. We saw the success they had with loans last season with Rashford and (Marco) Asensio. And now Sancho is on their radar; he is a player that Emery likes.”

Bailey stressed that United have to “do something about his wages” and other clubs are monitoring the situation. Borussia Dortmund want to re-sign him, but they prefer to do a similar deal to the one that took him to Chelsea.
Rashford’s spell at Villa holds similarities to Sancho’s at Stamford Bridge, but a £40m buy option wasn’t taken up. The latter is almost certain not to be brought back into the fold by Ruben Amorim after he took several digs at the club during the season.
Sancho has a year left on his contract and he’s also been linked with the Saudi Pro League but prefers to stay in Europe. He’s not the only attacker on Emery’s shortlist amid talks with Real Betis for youngster Jesus Rodriguez.
