Aston Villa ahead of Newcastle and Forest in race for Liverpool ace Harvey Elliott

Aston Villa are favourites to win the transfer race for Liverpool ace Harvey Elliott, according to Sunday Mirror.

The 22-year-old is expected to leave Anfield after struggling to break into Arne Slot’s plans last season.

He was limited to 18 Premier League appearances in 2024-25, with 16 of them as a substitute.

Elliott recently admitted he doesn’t want to be “wasting years” in his career and will weigh up whether to stay in Merseyside this summer.

His situation has reportedly alerted Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are all keen on landing his signature.

But Villa are said to be in pole position, as they are pushing to sign the attacking midfielder in a £30 million deal, plus add-ons.

Unai Emery’s side missed out on Champions League qualification after losing 2-0 to Manchester United on the final day of the season.

But that hasn’t deterred the Spanish boss from trying to sign high-profile players.

Elliott would be an excellent acquisition for them, but it remains to be seen whether they can sign him given their financial troubles and the huge competition for the player.

The English footballer is very young and boasts ample Premier League experience.

Elliott mainly plays as an attacking midfielder, but has also been deployed on the right wing as well as in central midfield. He is highly rated for his strong work ethic, creativity and passing ability.

But despite all these attributes, he struggled for game time under Slot last season, and so he will likely push for an exit this summer.
