L’Équipe have confirmed reporting from The Athletic that the Friedkin Group, who own Serie A side AS Roma, will take over fourth division side AS Cannes.
The club is entering a new era having secured promotion back to the fourth division, and are now set to welcome new owners to the club. Anny Courtade, who has been the custodian of the club for the past four years is set to sell to Dan Friedkin, who counts Serie A side AS Roma within his portfolio. Fittingly, Friedkin is a film producer, and he now looks set to take the reigns of a club whose town is most well-known for hosting the Cannes film festival.
Nine years after their last spell in the National 2, Cannes will make their return next season following promotion. The club may now have more substantial means following Friedkin’s purchase of the club. The American film producer, who won the Palme d’Or in 2017 for the film The Square, purchased Roma back in 2020.
