Arsenal now ‘making ground’ on deal for £22m star at the Emirates

Arsenal have a ‘high chance’ of pushing through a deal for Palmeiras midfielder Danilo, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Gunners have been linked with the signing of the wonderkid since the summer, and Mikel Arteta could now bring him to the Emirates Stadium in the January transfer window.

What is the latest news involving Danilo?

According to Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, via Sport Witness, Arsenal made an offer of around £22m on the final day of the summer transfer window, and while this was rejected at the time, it is now believed that his current club may be willing to part with their prized asset if a similar offer is tabled in January.

Football London report that Arteta remains keen on adding a central midfielder to reinforce his squad, ensuring they can compete both domestically and in the Europa League upon the season’s resumption after the Qatar World Cup.

ESPN claim that the likes of Ajax and Monaco will compete for the Brazilian’s signature, while the man himself has signalled that he is “ready” to compete in any competition in the world, giving the green light for one of Europe’s top sides to submit a bid for the youngster.

What has Jones said about Danilo?

Jones believes that Arsenal may accelerate talks to bring the starlet to the club, having already made progress in discussions with Palmeiras, telling GIVEMESPORT: “I think identifying the central midfielder is something that is interesting and they’re looking at right now.

Danilo’s definitely one they are making ground on, I think there is a high chance that they try and get that one pushed through.”

Should Arsenal sign Danilo in January?

Given the fact that his current club seem to have softened their stance on relinquishing their key player, the Gunners have a good opportunity to add depth to the squad in the January transfer window.

Arsenal have also been linked with Youri Tielemans to bolster their options in the middle of the park, but Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has indicated that the club are not willing to part with him in January, opening the door to a move for Danilo instead.

At just 21-years-old, the emerging talent has already made 141 appearances for his current club, so despite his tender years, he has plenty of experience in men’s football, and would be able to slot right in to the base of the Arsenal midfield.

Featuring in this position in Palmeiras’ last home game, against America Mineiro, the enforcer displayed his defensive ability, which would be vital attribute to displace Granit Xhaka or Thomas Partey, making six tackles, double the amount of any other player on the pitch.

Even if he does not immediately stake a claim for a first team place, Danilo would be a great long-term option for Arteta, and the Arsenal boss should look to conclude a deal at the earliest availability.
