Newcastle United centre-forward Alexander Isak is at the top of Arsenal’s summer transfer wishlist, according to journalist David Ornstein.
The 25-year-old is one of the most coveted strikers in the game, but Newcastle are unwilling to let him go to Arsenal or any other suitors.
They are working to tie Isak to a new deal while slapping a £150 million price tag on the former Real Sociedad star to deter the big clubs eyeing him.
The Sweden international is a lethal finisher who could spearhead Arsenal’s push for a first Premier League title next season.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reportedly loves Isak and wants to bring him to London amid competition from Chelsea.
The Blues had their sights set on him last summer and could resurrect their interest, as they still need a consistent striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson.
It is hard to envisage Arsenal paying over £100 million for Isak, especially with Newcastle determined to keep him. His contract runs until 2028, and the Magpies are under no pressure to sell.
Instead of chasing an unrealistic target, new sporting director Andrea Berta should focus on finding Arteta a smarter, more attainable alternative.
A proven goalscorer who fits Arsenal’s tactical set-up without breaking the bank would be a wiser investment.
With Liam Delap, Samu Aghehowa, Victor Osimhen, Lois Openda and Ollie Watkins potentially avaialble. Arsenal have plenty of other options they can target.
Sporting CP star Viktor Gyoekeres is another potential signing and he reportedly jump at the chance of joining a Premier League club this summer.
