Alcacer interested in Bundesliga return

Sky Germany reports that Spanish striker Paco Alcacer has deliberately rejected MLS transfer offers in the hopes of potentially returning to the Bundesliga.

Since Borussia Dortmund offloaded Paco Alcacer (in order to make room for the incoming Erling Haaland) during the January 2020 transfer window), the 28-year-old Spanish international has experienced a rollercoaster ride at FC Villareal. Shortly after the BVB sold him for a reported €23 million, Alcacer’s estimated market worth began to decline from its October 2019 peak of €50 million.

Despite a relatively strong second season in La Liga, the inconsistencies of his first and third seasons in the Spanish top flight have seen the veteran attacker’s worth fall all the way down to €9 million. No longer playing much of a regular role under head-coach Unai Emery, Alcacer appears set to be transferred out before the current window closes.

Sky’s German outfit presently reports that Alcacer himself would prefer to remain in Europe. The striker is even said to be eyeing up a return to the Bundesliga. The German broadcaster notes that Alcacer has rejected potential transfers to America’s MLS and is prepared to waive part of his current salary in order to remain close to home.

Sky lists Hertha BSC, 1. FC Union Berlin, and Borussia Dortmund as potentially interested clubs. The problem with this particular transfer rumor happens to be that a move to any one of these three Bundesliga sides seems very unlikely. Hertha were able to secure their top targeted attacking reinforcement this afternoon. Union appear set up top after the signings of Jamie Leweling and Jordan Siebatcheu.

As for a potential return to Dortmund, there appear to be no concrete talks in place for the moment. Sébastien Haller’s recent diagnosis may change that. Moreover, if Alcacer is in fact interested in a Bundesliga return and is willing to take a pay cut, there are numerous other top-tier German football clubs who may wish to have a look.
