Serie A giants AC Milan have secured the signing of Lazio starlet Luka Romero on a free transfer, according to Sky Italia.
The 18-year-old had a contract that expires at the end of this month.
With Lazio opting not to renew his deal, the young playmaker became a sought-after free agent, attracting interest from several clubs.
After extensive negotiations, Milan emerged victorious in the race to secure Romero’s services.
The club has reached an agreement with the player’s entourage, paving the way for the highly-regarded youngster to don the Rossoneri jersey.
The deal between Milan and Romero entails a four-year contract. The midfielder will sign the contract imminently.
Romero could feature in Milan’s squad for the upcoming season.
Earlier today, Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani engaged in a two-and-a-half-hour meeting with Romero’s agent, Fali Ramadani.
The discussions resulted in an agreement in principle, with the final crucial details now ironed out.
Romero’s arrival marks Milan’s second successful swoop for a free agent, following the recent signing of goalkeeper Marco Sportiello.
The club’s proactive approach in the transfer market reflects their determination to bolster their squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
The seven-time UEFA Champions League winners have sold Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United. They are in the market for his replacement.
Milan are close to signing Ruben Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea. The Englishman is surplus to requirements at the Premier League club and will move to Italy for around £15 million.
Loftus-Cheek has struggled with injuries, but he is a talented midfielder with a bright future if he can stay fit.
Also, Milan are trying to sign Valencia midfielder/winger Yunus Musah. The American international wants to leave the club.
In addition, the Rossoneri need to sign a striker following the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
They have their eyes on Alvaro Morata, Gianluca Scamacca, and Lois Openda.
