North London’s Arsenal F.C. are reportedly keeping tabs on German defender Nico Schlotterbeck as part of a long-range plan to upgrade to their central defensive corps. This is according to online sports journal “The Athletic”, which also emphasizes that a January transfer is off the table due to the player’s contractual situation and Arsenal’s financial fair-play-related sanctions.
Schlotterbeck’s latest form dip has led to him not getting called up to Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann’s German Nationalmannschaft. The 24-year-old has seen is estimated market worth slide down to €35 million in the latest transfermarkt update. The 11-times-capped German international remains under contract with his German club through 2027.
