Roma have decided to turn off the move for Leonardo Bonucci due to fan discontent.
According to a report by Andrea Pugliese of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma are now uncertain about landing Leonardo Bonucci as an additional defender due to discontent amongst their fanbase. The next two days are expected to confirm the outcome of this ordeal.
Since the negotiations with the 36-year-old started, the Giallorossi saw resistance from fans against the discussions in their social media channels as well as in and around the capital. Reasons cited for this treatment are the player’s Juventus background and an alleged ‘lack of love’ towards Roma.
General manager Tiago Pinto hoped that head coach Jose Mourinho would make the fans accept their new signing but that prospect now seems impossible. There are too many complications and the club won’t be angering their fans for a single player.
Roma are now probing other defensive options in the market for the January transfer window as West Ham’s Thilo Kehrer is already under the radar for potential signings.
