Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso recently committed himself to a contract with the Bundesliga club until 2026.
However, that doesn’t necessarily mean the Spaniard will be staying at the BayArena for the long term.
According to Sport Bild, the 41-year-old would be allowed to leave Leverkusen in the summer of 2024 to join either Bayern, Real Madrid or Liverpool if there is mutual interest.
Xabi Alonso, who played for all three clubs during his playing career, has been linked with Real Madrid in particular, with reports suggesting he could replace Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the season.
However, Bayer Leverkusen managing director for sport Simon Rolfes is not worried about Alonso jumping ship any time soon.
“We got his commitment a few weeks ago when he extended his contract,’ he told Mundo Deportivo. Xabi doesn’t have to say anything. He extended his contract. He’s completely focused here,” he told Mundo Deportivo recently.
