According to Bild, Eintracht Frankfurt are interested in bringing Mainz midfielder Leandro Barreiro to the club.
Barreiro’s current contract at Mainz expires next summer, meaning from January he is able to speak to teams over a potential free transfer and with a transfer value of €14m it would prove to be a big steal of a transfer.
The 23-year-old sees a potential move to Frankfurt interesting but a final decision is nowhere near close to being made over his future at the moment. Mainz are still confident that they can extend the contract of Barreiro and believe that the midfielder also does not want to leave the club on a free transfer.
Frankfurt had shown interest in Barreiro in the summer, but the demands from Mainz were too high for the former Europa League winners.
The arrival of the 23-year-old would greatly boost Frankfurt’s central midfield with the only reliable starting options being Ellyes Skhiri and Hugo Larsson.
