It has been a disastrous campaign thus far for Union Berlin and Urs Fischer. Having improved every season since promotion to the Bundelsiga in 2019, Die Eisernen now find themselves bottom of their Champions League group and two points away from the relegation play-off spot in the Bundesliga.
Urs Fischer’s side have built their success with a solid spine of Robin Knoche, Rani Khedira and Sheraldo Becker, but so far this season Union have been unable to to line up with all three players in the squad. However, there is reason for optimism once again at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
As reported by Bild, both Khedira and Knoche returned to training on Tuesday morning. With the pair returning to the Union squad, Urs Fischer will be hoping to see significant improvements on the pitch.
Die Eisernen have only been able to keep one clean sheet so far this season, and that came in the first round of the DFB-Pokal against fourth-division Astoria Walldorf. However, Union can now look forward to their key players guiding the side back up the table, as they are set to feature against Stuttgart when the Bundesliga returns after the international break.
