Kevin Volland didn’t need much convincing to join Union Berlin.

Kevin Volland has explained why he left AS Monaco to join Union Berlin during the summer transfer window.

“I really wanted to join a club with a long tradition and I like the working-class mentality here. Then there are the structures and the clear hierarchy in the team,” Volland told Sport Bild.

“To be able to play in the Champions League on top of that – the whole package was extremely appealing to me and that’s why I told my agent early on: ‘Playing for Union would be great.'”

The former Bayer Leverkusen forward added that he’s generally happy to be back in the Bundesliga.

“Once you’re abroad, you realize how much you miss the Bundesliga. I love it. The stadiums are always full, it gets you emotionally”.
