Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Portuguese left-back Raphael Guerreiro. He will sign a three-year contract with the club until 2026.
The 29-year-old left Borussia Dortmund as a free agent this summer and has accepted a deal to join the Bundesliga champions.
Guerreiro spent seven years at BVB and established himself as one of the best left-backs in Europe.
Also, he showed his versatility by occasionally filling in as a box-to-box midfielder due to his brilliant football mind and tactical understanding.
Guerreiro made 36 appearances for Dortmund this campaign despite struggling with injuries and recorded six goals and 14 assists.
Since moving to Dortmund, Guerreiro has scored 40 goals and assisted 50 more in 224 appearances for the club. He has won the DFB-Pokal twice and the DFL Supercup once.
The France-born defender put his name on the map at the 2016 European Championship, where he was one of the nominees for Young Player of the Tournament.
BVB snapped him up from Lorient, where he had spent three years featuring in 111 games. He scored ten times and assisted eight goals for the Ligue 1 club.
Guerreiro joins Bayern, where he will link up with head coach Thomas Tuchel. The pair worked together at Dortmund.
The former Caen defender will provide cover for Alphonso Davies at left-back. The Canadian speedster dealt with a lot of niggling injuries this season.
Bayern brought Joao Cancelo from Manchester City in January to provide cover at left-back and right-back. But he failed to convince former Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann and current manager Tuchel. He has returned to England.
Guerreiro will cover Davies while the Bavarian giants continue to fight to sign Kyle Walker from City to replace Benjamin Pavard at right-back. Pavard wants to leave.
However, City want to keep Walker but face a fight with the German club.
Also, centre-back Lucas Hernandez has told Bayern he wants to leave. They are closing in on Napoli’s Kim Min-jae to replace him.
In addition, Bayern still need to sign a defensive midfielder and a striker ahead of next season.
