Marcus Thuram informs PSG that he won’t join

According to L’Équipe, Marcus Thuram (25) has informed the hierarchy at Paris Saint-Germain that he won’t join the club this summer.

Thuram, a France international, is a free agent following the expiry of his contract at Borussia Mönchengladbach and had been strongly linked with a move to PSG, and according to L’Équipe, had multiple exchanges with the Parisian club. Les Parisiens even offered Thuram the most lucrative contract of those on offer.

However, the medium-term uncertainty surrounding the club, most notably the lack of clarity surrounding the managerial situation, weighed into Thuram’s decision. The Frenchman, who has now established himself as part of Didier Deschamps’ squad, wanted assurances and certainties to allow him to progress and develop. Whilst it looks likely that Luis Enrique will take the position in the dugout at the Parc des Princes, where Thuram would fit in under the Spaniard is less clear, and the now-former Borussia Mönchengladbach striker doesn’t want to risk his Les Bleus spot ahead of Euro 2024.

Thuram has therefore informed PSG that he won’t sign for the club. A decision on his future is nonetheless imminent, and the Italian media have strongly linked him with a move to AC Milan.
