Borussia Dortmund confirmed on Wednesday that, just like captain Marco Reus before him, Mats Hummels had opted to sign on for another year with the club.

Mats Hummels contract extension with Borussia Dortmund is finally through. The current league-leaders confirmed that the 34-year-old would sign on for another year in the Schwarzgelben tricot. A strong run of form during the second half of the season evidently helped both the club and player decide upon further mutual cooperation.
“I am very happy that Mats Hummels will stay at Borussia Dortmund for another year,” Dortmund board chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke noted in a statement accompanying the signing, “He identifies very much with our club. BVB and Mats simply belong together.”
“Everyone knows how much I enjoy playing at Signal Iduna Park with our fantastic fans,” Hummels himself added in a statement, “I didn’t take the decision lightly. It was a long process of consideration. Now, at the end of the season, I can truly say that I’m really up for another year.”
