Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano set for two-week spell on the sidelines

France international and Bayern Munich centre-back Dayot Upamecano (24) has sustained a muscle injury in his right thigh during training on Thursday, the club’s head coach Thomas Tuchel has revealed in his pre-game press conference, as reported by L’Equipe. The injury is a late-season blow for the Bavarians, who have slipped to second place following a run of poor results in the Bundesliga.

Upamecano will therefore miss at least two games, against Hertha Berlin at home on Sunday and at Werder Bremen next week. The French defender may make his return to action at home against Schalke 04. Cameroon international striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (34) and Canadian wing-back Alphonso Davies (22) will also miss out on Sunday’s match. Bayern have a 1-point deficit on rivals Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga with five games left to play. The Edin Terzić-led side will face Bochum tonight for the chance to go 4 points clear.
