Barcelona, Bayern Munich eye Man Utd target Jeremie Frimpong

Barcelona and Bayern Munich are interested in Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Dutchman is attracting the attention of several European clubs after impressive performances this season. He could be on the move in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United reportedly want Frimpong’s services, but they are not alone. Barcelona and Bayern Munich also want him.

Bayern and Barca are looking for reinforcement at right-back, and Frimpong is a candidate to fill that squad gap.

Barcelona need a right-back, with coach Xavi Hernandez shoehorning centre-backs Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo into the position. He has played midfielder Sergi Roberto there too.

They sent Sergino Dest out on loan to AC Milan, where he has failed to impress and improve. Barcelona will look to sell the American international and bring in a fresh face.

Although, Barcelona will struggle to raise the funds to sign Frimpong. He is a prized asset and will cost a lot for the Catalans. They are already in a dreadful financial situation.

Bayern Munich are another party showing interest in Frimpong. They know him well from the Bundesliga and love signing rival players.

The Bavarians need another right-back as they plan to return Joao Cancelo to Manchester City at the end of the campaign. They will not take up their option to buy.

Bayern will turn to a player that already knows the league.

Frimpong is an ultra-attacking nonstop full-back and one of the most exciting talents in that position. Together with Moussa Diaby, they form a dreaded right side.

He has eight goals and six assists for Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen in 26 appearances this season.

The Manchester City academy graduate can be susceptible defensively, but he is still a solid if unspectacular defender.

It is unclear what Bayer Leverkusen will charge for Frimpong, but it will likely be north of €35 million.
